Biography
Dr. Jiuzhou Song received his Ph.D. degree in statistical genetics from China Agricultural University, China, in 1995. From 1995 till 1998, he held a postdoctoral fellowship in genetics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, then he became a research fellow in biochemistry and molecular biology at Indiana University, USA, during 1998-2000. Before joining the University of Maryland, USA, he was a biostatistician in the Departments of Microbiology and Infectious Disease and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary, Canada. Currently he is a professor with tenure at the University of Maryland, USA. His main work is to use statistical genetics and computational epigenetic methods to study the interaction between livestock genomes and environmental factors (such as virus infection and diet style) to improve animal health and performances and growth development, especially on biomarker identification and systems biology. As an internationally-recognized expert in animal genomics and epigenetics, he has trained more than 45 postdoctoral fellows, visiting scientists, and graduate students and published more than 180 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Notably, his research has drawn the attention of public media such as the UMD newsletter, Science Daily, and Maryland Public Television, and triggered broad social impact through its applications. He has served on review panels for funding agencies such as USDA, NSF, NSFC, NSERC, BBRSC, and NAR in France. Besides, he chaired symposiums and epigenetics workshops in Plant and Animal Genome Conferences and the 2018 International Symposium on Animal Health and Inheritance of Disease Resistance. He has served as associate editors and editorial board members for more than ten peer-reviewed journals.
