Biography
Dr. Gebeyehu is a professor of chemistry at Columbus State University. He received his Ph.D. in inorganic/analytical chemistry from Philipps University, Marburg, West Germany in 1991. His academic appointments are as follows:
- Fulbright Scholar at the Department of Chemistry, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia (Fall 2013 and Spring 2014).
- Professor of chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Columbus State University, Columbus, GA 31907 (2008-till present).
- Associate professor of chemistry, Department of Chemistry and Geology, Columbus State University, Columbus, GA 31907 (2002-2007).
- Assistant/associate professor of chemistry, Chemistry Department, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, AL 36088 (1992-2002).
- Part-time position in the Department of Chemistry and Geology, Columbus State University, Columbus, GA 31907 (Fall 1995).
- Lecturer and head of Chemistry Section, Alemaya University, Ethiopia (1985-1987).
- Assistant dean of Science Teachers Training Program, Alemaya University, Ethiopia (1983-1985).
- Assistant lecturer, Addis Ababa/Alemaya Universities, Ethiopia (1980-1983).

- Synthesis and characterization of some inorganic and organometallic compounds that may be useful as nonlinear optical materials.
- Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of some lanthanide complexes that show luminescence property and could be useful as waveguide materials.
- Analysis of environmental pollutant related to some heavy metals analysis in surface and ground water.
- Investigating the decomposition pattern of some disinfection by-products using metal oxides.
- Analysis of household materials using electrochemical techniques.
